  • After a 2023 release that was “just” really good, this year’s William Larue Weller is a return to form and among the best from the expression in recent years.

  • A barrel proof wheater that drinks hotter than its proof, 2024’s William Larue Weller still manages to maintain balance and offer an array of flavors that work amazingly well together.

  • This year's William Larue Weller is pleasant and great, loaded with sweet and fruit-driven wheated bourbon notes. It doesn’t reach as high as past releases, however.

  • Nose:

Sweet and buttery on the nose. Lovely brown sugar, butterscotch, soft sweet pastries and fresh waffle batter hit as wheat softness spills forth.

  • Taste:

The palate is rich and nicely layered — plenty complex. but the proof sneaks by. Soft and sweet, butter cream and honey, blueberries and cherries, faint pepper, pleasant vanilla cream and icing. 2024's is softer and sweeter than previous years, a pleasant wheated bourbon with big mouthfeel and more nuance.

  • Finish:

Moderate finish — a bit of a surprise this year as the finish usually steals the show. Warm honey, vanilla bean, sweet maple and a hint of confectioners sugar with soft fruits, toffee and honey.

  • Overall:

This year's William Larue Weller is pleasant and great, loaded with sweet and fruit-driven wheated bourbon notes. It doesn’t reach as high as past releases, however.

  • Score:

    88
