Widow Jane Oak & Apple Wood Whiskey Distilled From a Rye Mash, although made from a rye mash, is not technically categorized as rye whiskey because it is matured in used oak barrels. Thus, this American whiskey is aged for a minimum of two years in barrels that previously held bourbon, with the incorporation of applewood staves.
The end result is pleasing maple and vanilla aromas and a brisk, drying palate that boasts brown sugar, chamomile tea and supple leather, ending with lemon peel and black pepper.
This bottle is not a typical bottle I would drink often. It is more of an experimental dram for me to use it in my cocktails where I am looking for fresh and sweet apple notes.
