The Vaults by Widow Jane features some of the distillery’s oldest and rarest whiskeys from Tennessee and Indiana, aged a minimum of 15 years. These whiskeys are blended in small batches and finished for three months in air-seasoned Chinquapin oak casks. The casks are sourced from Northern Kentucky, harvested from trees grown on a limestone-rich shelf, and air-seasoned for at least 48 months.
Surprising, to say the least. I was afraid the bourbon would be too sweet with some of what I was getting on the nose. But this thick, full-bodied bourbon has a nice heat at the front with a long finish.
The taste starts off with a touch of cherry cola followed by a burst of oak tannins and subtle spices that fade to reveal vanilla, honey, and subtle hints of cocoa and tree fruits that last through the long, dry finish. Excellent!
