  • A very, very pleasant sipping Rye that keeps you taking another sip and exploring the flavors; great for Manhattans but would sneak a sip or two while mixing another batch.

  • There's some mild oak and char flavors providing a bit of dimension to an otherwise straight-forward rye.

  • The taste has gentle spicy notes of cinnamon and clove balanced by honey, butterscotch, and dried fruits. The finish is long with lingering spices.

  • Paradigm Rye has a tall order to fill: convince non-rye drinkers to take a chance on it while offering seasoned drinkers something as well. Somehow Widow Jane pulls it off.

  • Nose:

Sweet, fairly complex and decently hot. Pine and anise are the biggest notes here, plus nutmeg, orange peel, molasses, honey and milk chocolate.

  • Taste:

Medium mouthfeel. Nice and oaky. Spearmint, anise, cinnamon rolls, clove, waffle cone and butterscotch.

  • Finish:

Medium finish. Char, bubblegum and a dose of ethanol.

  • Overall:

Nice, sweet, punchy, dessert-forward rye. It isn't super complex but would be great in a cocktail. The smooth and sweet waffle cone flavor profile makes for a solid neat sipper, too.

  • Score:

    85
