25 Years
Presumably distilled by Glenora, this 25-year-old single malt is sourced from Canada and bottled by WhistlePig in Shoreham, Vermont. This is WhistlePig's second foray into single malt, and it's a bold statement from the brand, now incorporating a Cabernet Sauvignon finish from the formidable Silver Oak winery. This release also bears a 25-year age statement and a suggested retail price of $1,999. Let's dive in!

Big fruit, honey, toffee and cola on the nose combine with beautiful malt, baking spice and a touch of oak. It's impressively rich on the nose.
Moderate mouthfeel. There's quite a bit of viscosity for 91 proof, and the Cabernet really pops on the palate. It's impressively layered, with old malt, fruity Cabernet character and plenty of oak and spice balancing the two. Fruit from the cabernet imparts blackberry, jammy cherry, some cranberry and lingonberry, with black pepper, tobacco and a light hint of citrus.
The finish is long and presents the best balance between old malt character, pleasant oak and lively Cabernet finish. Blackberry, currant, tobacco, pleasant malt and old parchment, fig and oak come together in an impressive array.
Tasting The Beholden's older sibling complete with a Cabernet finish was an interesting proposition. Did it need to be older? I didn't think so. Did it need a cabernet finish? I also didn't think so. But tasting The Badonkadonk, it's clear it benefitted from both, pulling in tons of savory and fruit essence from Silver Oak's Cab casks, and the extra oak and spice continue to round out a pour I expect WhistlePig will keep aging for older and older releases. It certainly has the runway to keep going.
