WhistlePig is a textbook rye, all grain, lumber, and baking spices, but this expression takes the spirit in a whole new direction. Definitely worth seeking out, even if you’re just curious from a novelty factor perspective.

House Review
Nose:
Juicy and bright on the nose. Lots of jam, pepper, old musty fruits. Caramel and toffee hang out behind the wine character.
Taste:
Muted and soft on the palate. No real heat, but a thin mouth feel to pair. A hint of old oak, dry tannins, some coconut shavings and red berries. Some rye spice, faint pepper, a little brown sugar.
Finish:
Short to medium finish. Not particularly notable here. Thin, not a ton going on, the wine sort of clobbers the rye character.
Overall:
Not great, and I’m thankful that a variety of other offerings from Whistle Pig are available - typically at the same price as this or less.
