The Legacy Series sources well-aged whiskeys from multiple origins, using cross-category blending to reconstruct a traditional mashbill instead of blending grains before fermentation. This allows selection of whiskeys at the precise age and flavor profile needed for a balanced blend.

Legacy Batch 003: “The Declaration” combines whiskeys aged eight to 25 years, reviving a Colonial-era Maryland-style rye mash bill with spirits from three origins and a finish inspired by George Washington’s Mount Vernon Distillery. This 115.74-proof blend includes Indiana rye finished in Mount Vernon apple brandy barrels, Canadian corn whiskey re-barreled in new American oak, and Virginia single malt. Bottled at 57.87% ABV, it retails for around $199.99.

  • On the tongue it opens with the character of a Cadbury Creme Egg — silky, sweet vanilla cream wrapped in milk chocolate — before a bitter snap of hoppy IPA pushes in and pulls everything toward black licorice. The texture starts thick and custard-like, then snaps dry.

  • A very good, nuanced whiskey with superb balance. This is an extremely out-there blend, and it works. Really fun expression

  • Nose:

Delicious nose. Sweet notes mix nicely with rye spice. Sassafras, cherry syrup, golden apple, vanilla frosting, Demerara, peanut, vanilla, gingerbread, nutmeg, mint. A good bit of heat on the nose.

  • Taste:

Lots of heat on the palate, which is dark yet fruit-forward. Lots of tannin and tobacco pair with stewed apple cores, black pepper, blackberries, cinnamon and pepper

  • Finish:

Blackberry, cinnamon and clove lead the finish, followed by tobacco, blueberry compote, sassafras and plum.

  • Overall:

A very good, nuanced whiskey with superb balance. This is an extremely out-there blend, and it works. Really fun expression
