Released in July 2025, Wheel Horse Barrel Master Select 5 Year Old Barrel Proof Bourbon is the first batched barrel-proof release, according to the brand. Aged five years and bottled at 112.6 proof, this bourbon was released in a limited run of 2,100 bottles, each boasting a $39.99 suggested retail price.

The blending efforts were led by Barrel Master Stephen Corrigan, who blended 12 barrels of 5-to-6-year-old Kentucky straight bourbon sourced from Green River Distilling in Owensboro, Kentucky. The mashbill is Green River's usual bourbon recipe of 70% corn, 21% rye and 9% malted barley.

  • Not exactly reinventing the wheel here (no pun intended), but it’s nicely well rounded and balanced.

  • Nose:

Pleasant, sweet nose. Dark chocolate, tootsie rolls, malted milk balls, salt water taffy, tapioca, cherry candy.

  • Taste:

Moderate mouthfeel. The palate is somewhat woody, with notes of cinnamon, taffy, cherry, nougat, green apple and pepper.

  • Finish:

A big hit of cinnamon leads the finish, followed by cherry, apple bake, pie crust and ash.

  • Overall:

A perfectly pleasant bourbon. Not exactly reinventing the wheel here (no pun intended), but it’s nicely well rounded and balanced. At $40, this is an awesome value; Green River full proof is priced at $50 (also pretty good value), and this is giving you Green River barrel-proof bourbon for $10 less.
