  • Initial notes of dark red fruits and clove-studded citrus lighten quickly to candy apple and pear chips. The finish showcases a bit of peppery spice and fading notes of sweet orange glaze and vanilla icing. This definitely tastes “natural,” but I’m not sure considerably more so than any other whisky.

  • It totally intrigues me. It's just a little too spicy and (seemingly) immature at times for a higher rating.

  • Youthful, elegant, and perhaps a bit awkward, this is not a generous whiskey. While it’s a little hard to love, I found myself returning to it more frequently than I originally expected, especially in an aperitif context.

  • Nose:

Full of citrus, crushed stone, slate and a touch of pepper and ash. Citrus leans heavy into lemon and lime curd, sweet and a touch savory.

  • Taste:

Sweet on the palate, blends caramel, creme brulee, a touch of cream and slate with ash, char, a bit of an industrial note and a touch of oak.

  • Finish:

Long finish, drawing things together; balancing the sweet desserts, the citrusy fruits and the more industrial, savory notes like smoke, ash and that slate note.

  • Overall:

Delightfully savory, this drinks more like some of my favorite wines: combining fruit, slate and spirit to deliver a unique, complex, pour.

  • Score:

    88
