    Waterford

  • Bottler

    Waterford

  • ABV

    50%

  • Price $100 to $199.99

Distilled by Waterford Distillery in Ireland, this release embodies one of the few, extremely rare, peated releases from the Irish whiskey brand. Composed of barley from Tony Pender's farm, peat harvested from Ballytiege and a barley peat level of 47ppm, I'm always a fan of the level of detail that Waterford presents drinkers. Teireoir Code P062, no coloring or filtering.

  • Nose:

Pungent and ashy, this could be mistaken for an Islay great with little trouble and no suspension of reality. Ashy, bready, spirit forward with rich undertones of ash and peat.

  • Taste:

Medium viscosity on the palate. Loaded with cream, honey, straw, a touch of hay, fresh creme brulee and a peach mango note on the back palate that balances extremely well with a maritime and mineral driven peat.

  • Finish:

Long finish. Ashy, mineral driven, lovely iodine undertones continue to rock and roll with vanilla bean, faint tropical fruits and a beautiful creme brulee character.

  • Overall:

Ballybannon swings hard and manages to connect on every front, Waterford's sweet, fruity, ester driven distillate works great with peat and fans of bold smoke won't be disappointed one bit.
