Wahaka is mezcal produced by a small group of acquaintances from Mezica. This expression is distilled entirely from Tobala, one of the smaller varietals. This is my first brush with Wahaka branded spirits, and I am very much looking forward to it. Let's dive in.

  • NIce mouth feel with just a pinprick of ethanol. Earth, clay, really vibrant salinity. I love the lean here towards the salty side. Light grapefruit and leather. Vibrant but savory. Nice balance, with lots of brine and earth. Pepper, clay and faint tobacco to close it out. Really a fan of the profile here.

  • The palate offers notes of mango and pineapple, grass, as well as cinnamon and allspice. The creamy finish is smooth and lengthy, with more tropical fruit, herbal notes and hints of caramel and cloves.

  • The palate hits the tongue with dried tropical fruits and segues into notes of fresh pineapple and mango, filtered through a smoky lens. If the Espadin is starter mezcal, this is the perfect chaser — and quite a little delight that doesn’t just sip well on its own, it also mixes well.
