Athlete-owned tequila finds a new contender in Volteo, a brand launched last year by Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. Lowland agaves are cooked in brick ovens, extracted via roller mill and twice distilled in stainless steel before aging three months in ex-bourbon American white oak. Production is headed up at NOM 1586, an understated distillery best know for the critically acclaimed Tequila Chamucos.

The aroma is as light and bright and the spirit's yellowish hue. Candied hints of vanilla, peaches and banana runts dominate. There's a smidge of oak and baking spice if you go looking for it, but otherwise, this is definitely on the younger side for a reposado.
The buttery sweetness from the nose hits its stride alongside distinct pepper notes. Agave nectar, cinnamon, butterscotch, allspice and plenty more vanilla. The flavor ratio leans much harder on those butterscotch and vanilla notes, giving this an approachable vibe without veering into cloying territory.
The finish teeters out with honey, cracked pepper, faint tropical fruit and orange. Goes down without a hitch.
Dak Prescott's spirits venture offers up an incredibly approachable reposado. From its tall, slender bottle to its vanilla-forward flavor, it's easy to imagine that this was designed as a competitor to other club-friendly tequilas on the market. Compared to those offerings, I'd say this is clear winner. Though it doesn't dazzle with anything unexpected, this is a solid tequila that delivers exactly what a reposado should.
