Complex, really interesting nose. Sea salt, shortbread, leather, tobacco, plum, chestnut, cinnamon, gingerbread, cotton candy, red grapes. Those Islay casks sing the loudest here, with briny peat character galore. That's joined by nutty fino, a darker, stickier cognac vibe and some red wine character that reads as a bit sweeter than a usual Cabernet, but perhaps the sherry’s sneaking in there. There’s a mushroomy earthy character as well. In short: there’s a ton going on on the nose.
ice viscosity on the palate. Big tobacco note plus raisins, browned butter, banana bread, honey, cinnamon, black pepper, rosemary, clove, seaweed, peat smoke. The Islay cask influence is plenty present here, but not at all overwhelming, playing nicely with Cabernet, Armagnac and Fino
Cherry cola, clove, cinnamon, peppercorns, thyme, mint, tobacco.
This is one of the best cigar blends I’ve had the pleasure of tasting. It’s also the best whiskey I’ve ever tasted out of Virginia Distillery Co. It's incredibly complex stuff. There are a lot of moving parts, and yet it's an entirely cohesive pour. It keeps you thinking with every sip and thoroughly enjoying the whiskey (or whisky, as Virginia Distillery Company likes to style it in a not to Scottish single malt heritage) all the while. Tremendous stuff.
