Distilled by - supposedly Stitzel Weller - but not disclosed on the label, this release from Preservation Distillery is a 17yr, barrel proof, release that was sold at the distillery only and features their oldest distillate from tanked stocks. Notably, the distillery has been in the news in recent years due to the owner's implication in the College Admissions Scandal, and there's some industry humor regarding the sale of these bottles. Let's see if it can live up to the title of "The OG"

  • Hot, bitter, vibrant and spicy, this doesn't drink reminiscent of Stitzel Weller in my opinion, but it is an interesting pour. That said, I think the title of OG could easily be granted to a number of other bottlings first.

  • Nose:

Ginger, cocoa, spicy clove. Interesting - it’s fairly vibrant for the age, spicy and zesty. That ginger note sticks out to me.

  • Taste:

Moderate mouthfeel, a zip of ethanol. It’s a touch hot for the proof, but there’s no doubt its flavorful. Honey, pecan, some tobacco, the candied ginger note is back along with some pretty auspicious tannin.

  • Finish:

Long finish, aggressive pepper and tannin. It’s a bit hot and bitter for my tastes.

  • Overall:

Hot, bitter, vibrant and spicy, this doesn't drink reminiscent of Stitzel Weller in my opinion, but it is an interesting pour. That said, I think the title of OG could easily be granted to a number of other bottlings first.
