Vecchio Amaro del Capo is produced by Fratelli Caffo Distillery in Limbadi, Italy. Made from neutral grain spirit and 29 Southern Italian botanicals, including sweet and bitter oranges, tangerines, chamomile, juniper, licorice, anise, mint and hyssop, each botanical is harvested when ripe and immediately macerated. The spirit is rested in neutral oak barrels under a solera system, sweetened with sugar beet and proofed to 35% ABV with water sourced from beneath the distillery. The production process, from maceration to bottling, takes approximately one year.

  • Made using a mix of 29 Calabrian herbs and roots, this ruddy amaro is herbal and seductive, mixing root beer-like notes with honey and vanilla sweetness, all enlivened by a spicy accent on the finish.

  • The mix of sweet and bitter actually melds into a quite pleasing finish. At first it’s a bit of a jumble, but in the end it comes together nicely, a quite nice sipper as an after-dinner amaro.
