William Sanderson created Vat 69 Blended Scotch Whisky in 1882. According to legend, he vatted 100 casks and had a panel taste them blind, selecting the 69th as the best. Originally produced by William Sanderson & Son Ltd., the brand later became part of DCL, now Diageo. The blend, once centered on Glen Garioch, now includes about 40 malts and grains.

  • Though you wouldn't necessarily write home about this blended whisky, it is serviceable.
