It was a nice break from the bolder, fuller-bodied bourbons I usually lean towards, and the crisp apple complimented the sweetness of the whiskey really well.
A nose of blossom honey, fresh cherries, banana cream pie, licorice, and spice is followed by a palate that’s delicate and creamy, with notes of vanilla frosting, orange, peanuts, marshmallow, and light pepper spice. Tobacco leaf on the finish, with cherry, oak, and understated spice. A sturdy, finessed exemplar of Tennessee style.
The taste is sweet and smooth at first with honey and maple syrup notes, followed by a mild burst of black pepper and allspice while pipe tobacco and charred oak notes linger in the background. The finish is smooth, long, and gentle with just a hint of spice.
For those who like dense and thick texture, it can become light but the flavors are not simple. I actually enjoyed the sweetness level and the finish with darker tones. With the flavor range, I believe Uncle Nearest 1884 can be used in various cocktails with a great joy.
The finish is borderline cloying, an aggressive dosing of sweetness lingering for ages on the tongue, to the point where it significantly outstays its welcome.
