Tres Generaciones has persisted for decades as a workhorse brand for tequila giant Sauza. In honor of its 50th anniversary, Generaciones is literally changing up the formula; its new 14-month añejo is slow roasted in masonry ovens, tahona crushed and double distilled in copper pot stills. In other words, a whole lot of old-school technique we don't usually see from the brand.
Sweeter notes come into focus fairly quickly — more maple and a strong thread of vanilla and caramel, classic anejo flavors that pair nicely as a foil against the persistent notes of greenery and spice.
Aromas of vanilla and mocha, all spice, caramel, and black pepper on sesame toast with a full body and a long coconut cream with anise and mint, pepper, lime oil, and arugala salad with toasted sesame finish.
Pepper-y and leads with a spicy, cedar character, laced nicely with tropical fruits, cinnamon, maple and a hint of ginger... this is a fun release that also demonstrates how far an extra couple proof points can go to bump up the complexity on a great tequila.
