  • Calming finish. An intelligent use of sherry cask aging.

  • There is a smoky and spiced quality to the whisky, but the lingering dried fruits help to balance things out at the end. Bonus points for good value to cost ratio.

  • An oddly good malt. I’m not hating this, but it’s so weird. It’s like drinking a shotgun of flavor from a boardwalk candy shop… and I kinda like it.

  • Very drinkable, good quality malt whisky. Good fuel for the tumbler. I think the strength works well here.

  • Big whisky, with lots to like once the odd nose blows away, revealing more of a honey character. Amazing value for an 18 year old whisky.

  • Skip the 12 and the 15. Buy this instead and drink half as much. Remarkable improvements over the other two. Good stuff.

  • Nose:

Rich honey, figs, apples, dates, cherry and currant. Really rich sherry notes here. Moist pipe tobacco. Honey, amaretto, vanilla.

  • Taste:

Medium, no heat. Rich sweet sherry. This is what I was hoping for in previous expressions. Musty pipe tobacco. Currant, blackberry, light earthiness. Faint cocoa, light pepper. The sherry here is quite apparent compared to the 12 and 15.

  • Finish:

Long, sweet, rich. Honey, almonds, figs, currant, musty sweetness. Tobacco is really apparent.

  • Overall:

Skip the 12 and the 15. Buy this instead and drink half as much. Remarkable improvements over the other two. Good stuff.
