Tincup Fourteener Bourbon is the distillery's oldest bourbon, aged for 14 years in new white American oak barrels and cut to proof with Eldorado Spring water. Each yearly release features limited edition packaging celebrating a Colorado 14er; Release No. 2 honors Quandary Peak. Tincup also partners with the Colorado Fourteeners Initiative, donating $14,000 from each release to protect the state's mountainous resources.
Things remain a bit scattered on the whole, and it’s still a bourbon in search of its raison d’etre, but I think things are headed in the right direction for the series, at the very least. At this price, it’s certainly worth sampling.
Nothing surprising here, just a solid bourbon that you keep going back to. Would please anyone who is tired of bourbon bottles that are finished with an alternate barrel.
The palate is a balanced blend of sweet and heat with baked apples and honey weaving between cracked black pepper and light astringent oak. The finish is elegant with toffee, a hint of toasted coconut, and charred wood.
