  • This whiskey is headed in the right direction, but different aging methods and/or lengths may need to be applied before it can be more enjoyable and warrant the $40 price tag.

  • The palate could use some work but this particular rye has a masterful finish that claws back a lot of favor in my eyes. It's priced well enough and I think other expressions like Pikesville may not perform as well for more so - give it a go.

  • Nose:

Spicy on the nose - definitely making the most of the rye in the mashbill. Zesty lime, fresh cracked pepper, clove and a bold clove character to the nose.

  • Taste:

Thin to medium mouth feel. Some pine, cedar, spearmint and a hint of clove. Not too herbal, but it's there. Peppery, clove forward, nice brown sugar character on the back palate.

  • Finish:

Long finish. Spicy, powerful, complex. Brown sugar, red hot cinnamon candies, light spearmint, lightly herbal. Peach cobbler.

  • Overall:

The palate could use some work but this particular rye has a masterful finish that claws back a lot of favor in my eyes. It's priced well enough and I think other expressions like Pikesville may not perform as well for more so - give it a go.
