The Senator Straight Rye Whiskey, distilled in Indiana and aged, blended and bottled in Kentucky, is a barrel-proof small batch release. Aged at least six years in new charred American oak, it combines 10 to 20 barrels. With a mashbill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley, it has a proof range of 112-121. A 750ml bottle retails for about $80.

  • Tropical rye notes of orange, melon, guava, and grape on the finish, along with chocolate, ginger, herbs, and white pepper. Lots of heat, but also depth, flavor, and balance.

  • Slightly malty back on the nose, but a majority of this is just super dusty. Subsequent sips of this definitely build upon the last. A slight tart cherry and cacao nibs build, with traces of cardamom coming through on the back end. Really solid sipper, but lacks a bit in the wow-factor.
