The Quiet Man Traditional Irish Whiskey Blend is distilled in pot stills, matured in oak barrels and finished in first-fill bourbon casks. Aged four years and bottled at 80 proof, it is produced by Niche Drinks in Derry, Ireland, in partnership with Luxco. It comes in 750ml bottles and retails for about $39.99.
It is quite sweet, not overly complex, easy (almost too easy) to drink, and comes in a very attractive bottle. This would be a good dram to use to introduce a newcomer to the world of Irish whiskey without risking overwhelming anyone. However, it can be a little too safe and seems to lack a real solid note of intrigue to send me back to the bottle for another taste.
Once again, the cereal grains and malt dominant the flavor profile with a sweet, light fruit undercurrent. A sort of “new make” alcohol tinge offsets that, fading into the mildest hint of smokiness.
The palate is very light, hinting at brown sugar, apple, and vanilla cream. Could use a bit more punch. A drop of water opens up the fruit notes and adds a layer of allspice
