This is a 14-year-old American whiskey distilled by Heaven Hill in Bardstown, Kentucky, where it was barreled and aged in American oak for three years before traveling across the sea to Scotland to mature for an additional 11 years. Only 232 bottles were released. This isn't classified as a bourbon, but we do know it was distilled from a "corn-dominant mash," so it's possible the only reason it's not classified as a bourbon is due to the years spent aging in Scotland. However, it's really pale in color for a 14-year would-be bourbon. Could be the climate, but that also begs the question if it was aged in used or new barrels.

  • A bit cacophonous from time to time — as any “fish out of water” will tell you — but unique, charming, and worth a sample should you come across the product… a single barrel of which was produced.

  • This is quite a fascinating expression and one worthy of exploration if you can find a bottle of it in the wild or taste it somewhere. It carries a deep taste profile across the board and reflects the team’s talent in bringing it to market—well played.

  • Nose:

Soft, sweet nose. White chocolate, cherry, gentle oak, espresso, cinnamon, cranberry.

  • Taste:

Plenty of oak and tannin with leather, cherry, white chocolate and blueberry scones, cinnamon, gingerbread. It’s got some heat, but not an unmanageable amount at all for the proof.

  • Finish:

Oak, cherry, butterscotch and almond on a finish that's medium in length.

  • Overall:

Lovely, sweet bruiser. Delicate but rich with plenty of punch.

  • Score:

    92
