A Night on Earth in Scotland is a limited edition single malt whisky from The Macallan, bottled at 43% ABV. Created from a selection of American and European oak sherry-seasoned casks and American ex-bourbon barrels, it celebrates Scotland’s Hogmanay tradition, where a dark-haired visitor, or “first footer,” crosses the threshold after midnight, bringing shortbread, whisky and coal for good luck. This release features packaging designed by Japanese-French illustrator Erica Dorn, inspired by historic fire rituals and Hogmanay customs.
Okay, this doesn’t work. The nose was okay but once I sipped it went from uninspired to slightly flawed. There’s no point in gifting whisky that looks fancy but taste like a supermarket Scotch. If you consider buying this, then I suggest you try a sample first.
While it’s not overwhelmingly serious or complex, it is hard to put down — and a (nearly) classic example of what Macallan does best. And it’s awfully pretty in the box.
