  • The label has enjoyed success for years and does not seem to show any signs of weakening. For fans of clean and uncomplicated single malts, this is in the very least a must-try whisky. I found my curiosity handsomely rewarded.

  • The palate is rich and spicy, with more orange, vanilla, and burning logs.

  • These flavors stay with you for quite some time and eventually turn bitter with some charred smoke from the barrels.

  • On the whole it’s a bit of a one-note whisky, the sherry really having its way with what can (and often is) a more delicate experience.

  • The only con of this whisky is the price tag as you can imagine. A median price of $280 is considerably high. Though I always have one in my cabinet.

  • This sells for well over $200 and sometimes closer to $300 in unfortunate markets. I wouldn't pay that in a heart beat which is where the rub is. This is a very high quality dram but its not worth the coin that Macallan wants.

  • Nose:

Huge sherry notes, clove, cinnamon, rich plums and raisins, cocoa, sweet and creamy

  • Taste:

Sweet and rich, cocoa and mild heat. Toffee, maple and confectioners sugar. Huge jammy notes. Its really deep and Im enjoying it quite a bit. Im a bit of a sherry whore myself, and this is hitting a lot of the right notes.

  • Finish:

Medium, thick sherry, sweet and fruity. Complex blend of sherry and cocoa.

  • Overall:

Ill cut to the chase. This is exceptional. I like it a lot and its thick and complex. I'd pay $80 or $99 in a heart beat for this. There's one problem though. This sells for well over $200 and sometimes closer to $300 in unfortunate markets. I wouldn't pay that in a heart beat which is where the rub is. This is a very high quality dram but its not worth the coin that Macallan wants. This seems to be a trend and seems to explain the Macallan hate. It's good though and I like it a lot - for that reason I'll rate this dram a 7. Nothing to sneeze at.
