  • Nose:

The nose has a dense, meaty character not unlike a mezcal de pechuga. Behind that slightly savory note hides a big hit of juniper, ground earth and pine needles — emphasis on the pine needles. It's like a Christmas tree in a glass.

  • Taste:

Lots going on. Toasted nuts, rosemary, tangerine, raw agave and shortbread combine for an oozing mouthfeel that coats the palate, shockingly so for something bottled well below 50% ABV. While pine needles were all over the nose, the palate delivers creamier flavors of pine nuts. Flecks of fresh tropical fruit shine through after a few sips. Really yummy.

  • Finish:

Long, warm finish dripping with minerality, saline and nuttiness. Far less sweet than the palate, giving this an unexpected bite.

  • Overall:

A great showing from The Lost Explorer! The tug-of-war between nuttiness and sweetness plays wonderfully, providing just the right edge of complexity. Eager to see what other tricks this brand has in store for future Reserva del Maestro releases.
