Silkie The Legendary Dark Irish Whiskey is a blend of double-distilled and triple-distilled peated single malts and grain whiskey. Distilled at Ardara Distillery by Sliabh Liag Distillers in Ireland, it is aged for over three years in ex-bourbon casks and bottled non-chill filtered at 46% ABV.
Peat makes for a fun departure from the typical world of Irish, for sure, and while this bottling is worthwhile, it doesn’t quite reach the complexity and elegance of a release like Teeling’s Blackpitts.
It hits the tongue with sliced apple, smoke, pepper- corn, clove, and little spice explosions, fading with notes of malt, lemongrass, ginger ale, and herbs. Exit via the long smoky finish.
