Distinctive, intriguing, nutty, sweet nose with loads of sherry influence. Chestnut, pecan, honey, nougat, raisins, cherry cola, vanilla.
Thick viscosity: impressive for the proof. The palate takes on an earthy, umami profile with some gentle sweetness. Plenty of oak leads the way with char, tannin and tobacco, with sherry hanging out in the background. Chestnut again, plus cinnamon, vanilla and clove.
Long, dark finish with tobacco, tannin, figs, dried cherries, blackberry, cinnamon and a touch of basil.
A lovely, balanced and rich sherried scotch. Impressive complexity given the 86 proof. Well done, Glenrothes.
