  • Something a little bit different of what we were used to with Glenrothes, but a nice dram to keep in mind.

  • For all the time and sherry, I expected a richer whisky in this glass. The Glenrothes is known for delicacy, but some complexity to show for the years would make this a more exciting dram.

  • Nose:

Rich on the nose, loaded with stewed fruits, tobacco, sweet cream, blackberry reduction, dates and creamy sweetness.

  • Taste:

Moderate mouthfeel, satisfying even at 43%. Loaded with rich fruits, dark and decadent. There’s some spice as well: light anise, pepper, some ginger. The sherry is heavy, present, lovely and rich. This is a big step up over recent Glenrothes I’ve tried and beautifully rich, even at its low proof. No bitterness, no sulfur. Lovely!

  • Finish:

Long finish, heavy on stewed fruits, blackberry reduction, fig, tobacco and honey.

  • Overall:

Nicely done, Glenrothes! After a slumber of a hiatus, it’s great to have something new from Glenrothes in the glass, and this 18-year release is a stunner.

  • Score:
