The Black Grouse Blended Scotch Whisky, created by Matthew Gloag & Sons, was released in 2007 for the Swedish market. A peated version of The Famous Grouse, it blends matured Islay whisky with the original and is bottled at 40% ABV.
The Black Grouse is a noticeable upgrade over the Famous Grouse with a richer character and offering up more in the way of aromas and flavors, but it’s muddled.
Admittedly, this is not top shelf whiskey and won’t replace your favorite peaty single malt, but it isn’t meant to. Instead, The Black Grouse is the peaty scotch you can sip freely without feeling a bite in your wallet.
