The Akkeshi Single Malt Japanese Whisky Peated is produced at Akkeshi Distillery, founded in 2016 and located on the eastern coast of Hokkaido, Japan, a region whose cool, damp climate is often compared to Scotland's Islay. The whisky is made from locally grown and sourced Hokkaido peated barley, double distilled in Forsythe copper pot stills, and matured in a combination of Hokkaido Mizunara oak, ex-bourbon, ex-sherry and ex-red wine casks with no age statement. It is bottled non-chill filtered at 55% ABV and typically sells for $200 or more depending on the specific release.
