Terroir Select Comunidad is the first in Tequila Ocho's new series celebrating local agave farmers. The spirit was made using agaves grown at El Nacimiento de Abajo in Arandas, Jalisco, the community neighboring the brand's distillery. Beyond that, the production details are standard Tequila Ocho: agave cooked in brick ovens, extracted with rollers mills, open-air fermented without fibers and bottled at 40% ABV.
Note to readers: The word "Comunidad" does not appear on the front label of this bottle, so keep a close eye out for "Terroir Select" or "El Nacimiento de Abajo" if you're trying to find this one in the wild.

Loads of raw agave and cracked black pepper. Nothing crazy complex, but the aromas that are there are distinctive, fresh and punchy in typical Ocho fashion. Softer hints of cucumber, grass and mist emerge after a few minutes in the glass.
Leads with minerality. Flavors of citrus pith, wet soil, mint, brine and faint black tea bitterness. Definitely sits on the savory side of the tequila spectrum.
Black pepper picks up on the finish alongside flashes of limestone and rosemary, plus a pleasantly sweet hit of pineapple.
Ocho's standard Blanco is one of the earthier offerings on the market, and this feels like the next step up for those fundamentals. If you enjoy the brand's usual fare, then Terroir Select will be an easy win.
