Talisker 57° North is a single malt Scotch whisky produced at Talisker Distillery in Carbost on the Isle of Skye. It's bottled at 57% ABV, named for the latitude where the famous Isle of Skye distillery is located. This is a no-age-statement single malt released by Diageo and currently only available in duty free or in some U.K. shops.
The palate is big and oily with an initial hit of orange marmalade on slightly burnt toast, honey candies, cookie butter, and candied lemon peel. That sweetness doesn’t let up, even into the generous finish, but the smoke helps to tame it with a bit of wet matchheads and ocean brine.
The balance between the fruit and smoke is fairly equal and the whisky is only slightly drying on the finish due to the creamy texture (without water, this whisky is more angular and spicy hot).
Sweet and fiery. Punchy. Fruity and salty throughout. Spicy ginger candy, black pepper, a flash of peat smoke, then more pepper. The finish explodes in a fireball — lowercase. Not like Fireball. Brine coats the mouth while the burn flashes intensely and is gone leaving pepper and peat behind. Mint very late on the finish.
