Talisker 10 is a core line expression released by the Diageo owned Talisker distillery. It is produced on the Island of Skye, where it is the only distillery. Somehow, I've made it this far without reviewing it, which I figured needed to be fixed since I've gone through a healthy amount of bottles over the years.
Really, really nice. You'd have no idea this was this young when tasting blind. The sea air, brine, and pepper blend really well with the fruits and dessert notes.
Palate entry is malty sweet and nicely peppery, then at midpalate the peaty iodine character kicks in. Finishes well as it gives off fiery, peaty/tobacco-like flavors.
The finish sloshes all of this up into a relatively cohesive — though still youthful — whole, making for a surprisingly satisfying dram that represents one of the best values in single malt at this age level.
I like long finishes that give me time to reflect on a whisky and when I don’t get that I get a bit miffed and it knocks it down a point or 3 for me. Regardless, it’s a good whisky worth keeping an eye out for.
I like to use this for tasting for people who may not know a ton about Scotch or think that they don’t like peat because the first thing they had was something like Laphroaig 10 or Laga 16.
Medium mouth feel, rich honey. Cream, toffee, salted caramel, apple crisp. Melon. Mild smoke.
Finish:
Long, rich, smokey. Pepper, caramels, lemon bar, ashy smoke. Not super smokey, but its there. Blends perfectly with the dessert notes.
Overall:
