The much-memed, often maligned SunnyD Vodka Seltzer announced a Purple flavor in April 2026. Its branding pointedly clarifies that this is *not* a grape cocktail, but rather an homage to the "Purple Stuff" SunnyD commercial debuted in the 1990s. (Much like McDonalds' Grimace shake from a few years back, its inspiration is intended to be a brightly-colored mystery.) The drink is canned 4.5% ABV, contains no sugar and is now available online at $9.99 per four-pack.

  • Tastes exactly like it smells. The vodka is mostly disguised by the sweetness, which has that zero-sugar, Stevia mouthfeel that some people might mind a whole lot less than me.

  • Nose:

The aroma is pure Grape Jolly Rancher — sweet, sweet, sweet.

  • Taste:

Tastes exactly like it smells. The vodka is mostly disguised by the sweetness, which has that zero-sugar, Stevia mouthfeel that some people might mind a whole lot less than me.

  • Finish:

Stevia coats the back of the throat with a wallop of sticky purple something or another.

  • Overall:

I'm befuddled that SunnyD of all brands would make its canned vodka cocktail zero sugar, but I guess that's a sign of the times. Is it any good? Most people would say no. Does that matter? Probably not. This is a limited-time release, and one that — above all else — was clearly designed to generate discussion on social media. I suspect that negative reviews may have been part of the pitch deck.
