Stauning Rye Whisky Sherry Cask Finish is a limited edition release, exclusively available in the U.S. Bottled at 50.5% ABV, it is finished in Pedro Ximénez PX and Palo Cortado Sherry casks from Jerez, Spain. Priced at $74.99, only 800 bottles were released.
There’s a big hit of sherry fruit flavors up front, with cherry, sultana, apple, orange peel, and plenty of spice, especially at this proof, evoking baked apple pie and honey. The black tea notes return along with spoonfuls of brown sugar at the end.
The taste has notes of orange peel, black tea, cardamom, and hints of figs and brown sugar. The finish is long with lingering spices and hints of pipe tobacco and brown sugar.
