Stauning Rye Whisky is made with locally grown Danish rye and barley, cultivated on Denmark’s west coast for over 2,000 years. Bottled at 48% ABV, the whisky is 100% floor malted, double distilled in small direct-fired copper pot stills and aged in virgin American white oak barrels. It retails for around $68.99.
The palate is herbaceous and starts with rye spice and lacquer, followed by a richer profile on the back, with clover honey, toffee, and dried fruits. T
This whiskey has a little something in common with aquavit – which seems to be the idea, considering Stauning calls it a liquid interpretation of freshly baked Danish rye bread. I've heard beer called liquid bread before, but as for me, I'll take the whiskey version.
