This is a single-barrel bourbon from Indiana's Starlight Distillery. It was sent to us for review in light of one of the brand's single-barrel bourbons winning Best Craft Distillery Whiskey at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. We received barrel No. 16264, a 9.5-year-old bourbon bottled at 108 proof.

  • Nose:

    Warm, sweet and creamy on the nose, with notes of browned butter, licorice, toasted marshmallow, marzipan, apricot and apple cobbler.

  • Taste:

    Bright and tasty profile. Raspberries, peaches and cream, Golden Delicious apple and marshmallow fluff mingle beautifully with a perfect amount of oak and browned butter. On the back end, some spice kicks in, adding cinnamon and cracked pepper.

  • Finish:

    The finish is dry, leading with tannin followed by peppermint, cinnamon, fudge, espresso and nutmeg.

  • Overall:

    An absolute banger of a barrel from Starlight. This is delicious, well balanced and very satisfying bourbon.
