Buffalo Trace's Stagg Jr. line was first announced in 2013, but this batch — No. 18 — is the first for which Sazerac has decided to ditch the "Jr." designation. This barrel-proof bourbon doesn't bear an age statement but is believed to be about 7-10 years old.

  • Dropping its “Jr.” designation might seem superficial on the surface, but Batch 18 breaks out of the George T. Stagg mold and ventures into new and divisive territory.

  • Nose:

Bold cherry, root beer candies, rich oak and tons of sweetness, ethanol and a touch of cola, nougat and toffee.

  • Taste:

Sweet up front, pleasant cherry, cola, rick tannin, sweet buttercream, toffee and a touch of oak. Rich and viscous, super layered mouthfeel.

  • Finish:

Long finish, particularly rich and savory with a strong cherry character. Fairly easy on the finish despite the hefty proof, and it’s a cherry-cola dream all the way out the door.

  • Overall:

Wild, powerful, fun, rich and loaded with the flavors that have made Stagg beloved by fans coast to coast.
