Spirit of Hven Tycho’s Star is a Swedish single malt named after astronomer Tycho Brahe. It is produced using a grain-to-bottle method at the family-owned Spirit of Hven distillery on the island of Hven, located between Denmark and Sweden. Made from pale ale malt, chocolate malt and heavily peated whisky malt, the whisky matures in air-dried oak casks composed of 58.2% heavy char Quercus Muehlenbergii from Missouri, 33.44% heavy toast Quercus Petraea from Allier and 8.36% medium toast Quercus Robur from Bourgogne. It is bottled at 41.8% ABV in a 500ml format.
This is the kind of spirit that should be enjoyed neat, or as close to pure as possible. The intent of every step of the process can be tasted in each sip and it’s quite delicious.
I’ll certainly be looking to cover a few more whiskies from this distillery soon. Part of my soul cried out to make a pun about how good this one was. But we’re above that on Malt thank Hvens.
