Distilled by Speyburn and bottled after 18 years of aging in a blend of American and Spanish oak casks, this sherried malt is bottled with no coloring or filtering, at 46% ABV. Speyburn is one of the country's lesser known distilleries, but that doesn't mean they don't know what they're doing. Long seen with a core of budget options, this 18yr age statement is a hefty one. Let's dig in.

Big sweetness on the nose, plenty of tobacco, stewed fruits, honey and toffee.
Medium palate, sweet cream, a bit of maple, blackberry, fig and stewed fruits. The sherry shows here wonderfully, and the complexity works well. I don't find myself wishing for a higher proof here, and the maple, cream and blackberry paint a great, sherried, picture.
Long finish, peppery and bold. Good deal of oak, lingonberry, oak spice and clove. Lovely transition from sweet and desert to bold, oaky and spicy.
Delightful. More complex than expected and a lovely sip. If you're looking for something to go toe to toe with those older Macallan's or Glendronach's at a fraction of the price, that you can actually find, this is a ringer.
