Soggy Dollar Dark Rum blends regional aged rums from the Caribbean. Triple distilled from cane sugar molasses and aged in American oak casks, it is bottled at 40% ABV in a 750ml format and retails for around $34.99.
As a mixer it is a okay for a £30 rum but in fairness there are many equals at a lower price point and quite competent sippers available for just a few pounds more. If it were £20 it might be worth the occasional splurge but at £30 it is overpriced. It’s not a bad little rum but it’s pretty average and I won’t be be buying it.
Very traditional in structure, there’s fairly young stock at play here, giving the rum a modest petrol character that bounces between industrial notes and the above-listed sweeter, almost candylike, characteristics. The finish is remarkably sugary, almost cloying at times. Still, it makes a credible mixer in any fruit-laden tiki-style concoction.
