Contradiction Rye is a 105-proof blended rye whiskey. It combines straight ryes from Indiana, West Virginia and Tennessee. The Indiana rye is 95% rye, the West Virginia rye is 88% rye and the Tennessee ryes are 70% and 51% rye. Produced using continuous column and pot distillation, it has an annual production of around 50,000 bottles and a suggested retail price of $39.99.
The palate opens wildly spicy and hot; adding water brings forward roasted grain and espresso, leading into a long, drying finish accented with ginger and cinnamon heat.
Some dried cherry, apple and raisin mix in to the midpalate, along with with bittersweet chocolate and toasted oak. The finish has a good burn to it, carrying off those tart fruit, spice and chocolate notes.
