  • The palate is high-toned, especially for a peated whiskey, with an initial lineup of lemon oil, almond torte, and vanilla cream that could almost be mistaken for an unpeated whisky.

  • Nose:

Heavy gritty, smoky peat dominates the nose, paired with prune, soft vanilla and cereal grains.

  • Taste:

Gritty, peaty and hot — but pretty tasty. Sweet vanilla and waffle cone contrast nicely with the harsh, medicinal peat.

  • Finish:

Smoke and ash drive the finish, joined by charred peach, pear and brown sugar.

  • Overall:

Quite an impressive expression. Pretty nicely balanced and really nice stuff at just five years of age. The peat works nicely with the Sauternes finish.

  • Score:

    89
