  • Rather than being overtly sweet and aromatic, it’s a little woody and a little spicy, leaning to oregano and ginger.

  • Is it worth paying ten times the listed price of $150 for a bottle, or even more than that? That’s a totally subjective question based on your means, desire, and dedication to the BTAC. But if you are looking for just one bottle from this vaunted collection to purchase, or order a pour of at a bar, make it this high-quality rye.

  • More interesting than previous years, this release of Saz 18 is much more complex and takes a bolder rye tack.

  • Sazerac 18 Year has finally returned to form, offering an elegant sip that harkens back to the day of the early 2010s.

  • I found it a noticeable step up compared to the (very good) 2023 release, and it’s certainly one of my favorite ryes of 2024.

  • Nose:

Bright and heavily rye-driven on the nose; sweet maple driven by big pepper, rye spice, ginger, some minty herbal character and hint of hop and molasses.

  • Taste:

The palate is pleasant and approachable, easy sipping and once again all rye all the time: orange peel and rose water, lemon, mint, grassy rye, black pepper, ginger and toffee.

  • Finish:

The finish is long, expressive and loaded with flavor despite being lower-proof. Loads of honey, molasses, ginger and black pepper work nicely with grassy rye and a touch of mint.

  • Overall:

More interesting than previous years, this release of Saz 18 is much more complex and takes a bolder rye tack.

  • Score:

    92
