The nose is soft and, in true Sagamore fashion, rye-forward yet sweet. Cinnamon raisin bread meets dried raspberries and butterscotch.
The palate brings a moderate mouthfeel and notes of cocoa, clove, mint, anise, caramel, frosted cinnamon rolls, soft oak, gingerbread, raspberry and honeybun.
The finish is long, satisfying and sweet, with more cocoa and caramel, as well as dried cherry, clove, cinnamon and moderate oak.
A very nice first bourbon from Sagamore. It's full-bodied and has a lovely profile. At $49, it's a good value. Does it reach the heights of the brand's best rye whiskeys? No, but that shouldn't be the expectation, and this is a great expression. The substitute of malted rye in place of the traditional malted barley in the mashbill adds a perfectly Sagamore twist, providing more rye spice to the profile.
