This is 2025's release of the Cask Strength Rye Whiskey from Sagamore Spirit, the Maryland-based distillery founded by Kevin Plank, the founder of sports apparel brand Under Armour. In 2023, Plank sold Sagamore to Illva Saronno Holding SpA, the Italian firm known for the popular amaretto brand, Disaronno. This batch of Sagamore Cask Strength is 100% Maryland-distilled rye whiskey aged at least seven years and bottled at 61.5% ABV. Sagamore doesn't disclose its precise mashbills but says this is a blend of high- and low-rye rye whiskey mashbills. This batch launched in May 2025, has a suggested retail price of $69.99 and is sold at the Sagamore Spirit's distillery in Baltimore or select retailers throughout the country. I'm tasting Batch 1A, bottle 1046.

Deep, spicy nose: brown sugar, clove, cinnamon, cola.
Big, spicy clove is joined by pine, cinnamon, black tea, ginger, honey, tannin, apple pie and a touch of lemon peel.
Some heat on a long finish that nicely balances oak and spice. Spicy cinnamon and ginger are joined by pine, oak tannin, crème brûlée and a nice strawberry note.
Sagamore Cask Strength is a beautiful, bruising rye whiskey that's packed with spice but balanced by oak and some sweet and fruity notes. At $70, it's a great value.
