For this edition, Master Blender Eddie Russell selected barrels exclusively from the fifth floor of the seven-story rickhouse Camp Nelson E. Bottled at a cask-strength 128 proof, this bourbon is the highest-proof Russell's Reserve release to date. Suggested retail price is $300.

  • Nose:

Rich, decadent nose. Browned butter wafts forth, meeting caramel cake and a deliciously potent Luxardo cherry note. There's some subtle spice, as well: cinnamon, clove, sassafras.

  • Taste:

This is a delectable, rich bourbon with a silky mouthfeel. More Luxardo cherry here, joined by oak and tannin, crème brûlée, pecan pie, browned butter and plenty of sassafras.

  • Finish:

The finish is long, opening with deep, dark cherry syrup, which is soon followed by dark chocolate covered espresso beans, cinnamon, golden raisin, peach pie, oak and tannin.

  • Overall:

A beautiful bourbon. It's rich, flavorful and perfectly balanced. The Wild Turkey distillery continues a phenomenal run after September's release of Master's Keep: Beacon, which stands atop my Bourbon of the Year rankings at the moment.

  • Score:

    95
