Morimoto Single Malt Whiskey is a limited edition American single malt produced by "Iron Chef" star Masaharu Morimoto and Rogue Ales & Spirits in Newport, Oregon. Distilled from the wash of Morimoto Imperial Pilsner and Morimoto Black Obi Ale, both brewed in 2016, the whiskey was first aged for over two years in American oak barrels in Rogue’s Ocean Aging Room, then finished in Oregon oak barrels made by Rogue’s Rolling Thunder Barrel Works. These barrels had previously aged Rolling Thunder Imperial Stout. The final whiskey was blended after a year and a half of secondary aging.

  • The taste has a nutty touch of smoked almonds along with cocoa beans, toffee, and a hint of creme brûlée. The finish is long and smoky with freshly-roasted coffee beans and dark chocolate.

  • The beer barrel finishing is what’s probably the overkill for a whiskey that is already overloaded with hop and granary elements, but if you really gravitate to the pungency of these flavors, that may not be a deal-breaker, and your mileage will certainly vary.
